We have gold pans that you can sign out and give it a try. You may be in luck and find your very own speck of gold. Come to the main office to sign out our recreation items.

Port Alberni is Salmon Capital of the World! Anglers and mariners come from all over to enjoy spectacular fishing. You can bring your own boat and have the convenience of moorage at China Creek Campground or we can arrange local guided charters. June and July offer one of the largest Sockeye runs in BC, August gives the exhilarating experience of catching a Chinook, and Halibut is the offshore fish of choice in spring and fall.

China Creek Campground has a large natural south facing beach that is ideal for launching a kayak to explore the Alberni Inlet. Around the corner from China Creek is Underwood Cove where kayakers can get out and stretch their legs with easy access to the Alberni Inlet Trail. Within a few kilometers there a number of points of interest to explore by kayak which include Cous Creek, Mactush Creek and Franklin Creek.

Port Alberni has some of the best hiking on Vancouver Island for all ages and experience levels. Some of the most popular hikes in the Alberni valley are the Log Train Trail, Stamp River Trails at Stamp Falls Provincial Park, Della Falls, Fossli Park, Maplehurst Trails and Mount Arrowsmith Regional Park Trails. China Creek Campground has direct access to the world famous Alberni inlet Trail and is on the direct route to Bamfield where advanced hikers access the West Coast Trail. With consistent thermal winds in the Alberni Inlet, China Creek is known as one of the best places to kite board in BC.  China Creek Campground is home to Wind Rider Kiteboarding. They offer lessons and adventure packages. We encourage you to come and give it a try!

The Alberni Valley boasts beautiful scenery and moderate climate making it a year round destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Situated in a valley at the end of an inlet, Port Alberni is surrounded by mountains, freshwater lakes and streams. As the inlet opens to Barkley Sound and the Pacific Ocean, Port Alberni and China Creek Campground is a popular destination for fishing, kayaking, diving, paddle boarding, kite boarding, hiking, mountain biking, ATV tours and wildlife viewing.
